2014-15 President's Annual Report
Since its adoption in 2012, the Olivet College community has been working diligently to make its Charting the Course to 2020 and Beyond strategic plan a reality, and the 2014-15 year hit several key waypoints on our course to success.
The college experienced, yet again, another strong fiscal year. A challenging economic environment, declining numbers of college-age students across the country and particularly here in the Midwest, and continued lagging public funding for higher education have all created a highly competitive and challenging environment for colleges and universities. Despite these challenges, Olivet College continues to do well at managing its fiscal affairs, balancing budgets and investing in it strategic priorities. Continuously demonstrating sound fiscal management, building endowment and making ongoing capital investments are the keys to building the strong and thriving Olivet College of tomorrow.
While a fiscally sound and strong organization are essential, we must also ensure that quality learning and development of students is at the forefront. The 2014-15 President's Annual Report highlights three key aspects of this effort. The faculty have looked earnestly at the learning expectations and outcomes of our academic programs and are making improvements necessary to ensure that high quality learning is occurring. While relationships remain at the center of the Olivet College academic environment, we’re also ensuring that learning is technologically infused and facilitated – that our students have the tools and skills to successfully leverage technology to facilitate effective learning and communication. Finally, we’re also working to develop strong, responsible leaders within our campus community – leaders who will be the difference makers in our communities of the future; our Student Government Association is a prime example of Olivet College’s strong and emerging leaders. I hope you enjoy reading about their efforts and accomplishments.
Finally, let me offer a hearty “thank you” to the many individuals and organizations who have helped to make this all possible. Your support of education, programs and projects is making a real difference in the lives of students and in the future of this great college.
With Best Regards and Gratitude,
Steven M. Corey, Ph.D.
